Richard Norton Seminar

Richard Norton is a martial artist, action film star, and stuntman. Norton worked as a bodyguard in the entertainment business before pursuing an acting career. His first screen appearance was in the 1980 Chuck Norris film The Octagon, and to date he has worked on over 70 feature films and television programs.
Richard Norton has mastered many aspects of the Martial Arts in his 45 years of
training, including Judo, Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, Thai boxing and several Japanese weapons systems. He used this experience to co create the hybrid martial art Zen Do Kai with fellow security guard Bob Jones. He has a 5th degree Shihan rank Black Belt in Goju Ryu, 5th degree Masters rank in Chun Kuk Do (Chuck Norris system), 4th-degree Black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a 5th-degree Black Belt in Zen Do Kai Karate. He has trained extensively with such Martial Arts legends as Tino Ceberano, Tadashi Yamashita, Fumio Demura, Bill 'Superfoot' Wallace, Pete "Sugar Foot" Cunningham, the Machado brothers and Chuck Norris.
Norton is in constant demand for seminars all over the world, covering such topics as street defense,
martial arts weapons drills, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts. His 15 years experience as a Personal Body Guard for some of Rock and Roll's greats finds Richard in particular demand for teaching the realities of real life street defense, focusing on aspects such as adrenal dump, stress control and pre-emptive strikes.

Annual Fundraiser

Reminder that all fundraiser sheets and monies need to be turned in by Tuesday December 1st so that our popcorn can be delivered before the holidays. Our goal was to provide 2 scholarships to go towards the Perioa, IL trip to meet and work with our Grand Master Soo Kim as well as compete in his tournament next June. The scholarships can also be used for local tournaments. If there are any remaining funds, they will go towards the purchase of new equipment. I will announce the winners and totals Thursday.

Century Order

There's still time to get your orders in before the holidays but you have to act now. The holiday catalogs are in and will be available at the school so feel free to take one home with you. We will be placing a Century order on December 3rd, so let me know if you need any equipment or accessories by that time.
Generosity

[jen-uh-ros-i-tee]
Readiness or liberality in giving; freedom from meanness or smallness of mind or character. The holidays are here and we see an attitude of generosity abound. However, it is very easy to focus on what we are going to get, rather than what we can give to others. It is quite fun to try to guess at what presents are hiding under the colorful wrapping, but the best way to truly honor the holidays is to give to others – and not just presents, but through kind words and through our actions, too. We should also remember that the holidays shouldn’t be the only time we display a generous attitude towards others. Remember this ancient proverb: “He who allows his day to pass without practicing generosity and enjoying life’s pleasure is like a blacksmith’s bellows – he breathes but does not live.”

Enjoying the Holidays —
But Staying Healthy

maFastbreaks Newsletter, December 2009
The holiday season brings family and friends together to share love and friendship with one another. These gatherings regularly include a variety of holiday meals. In fact, food has been a catalyst for fellowship with others for thousands of years. Unfortunately, we often overindulge in the variety of choices during the holiday season. It is not uncommon to hear people discuss the amount of weight they gained as a result of their holiday eating.

Registered dietician, Gloria Tsang, offers some suggestions to enjoying the wonderful holiday foods without adding inches to your waistline. Here are several of her suggestions.
Don’t go to a party hungry: we often eat faster and more when we are hungry — therefore eat a wholesome breakfast and lunch on the day to avoid overeating at the party.

Watch your portion: treat yourself a nice drink, dessert, chocolate or sweets without guilt, but always watch your portion. Go for small portions. This way you can sample all the different foods. Moderation is always the key.

Make a consciouschoice to limit high fat items: high fat food items can be found in fried food, cream-based soup, cheese-filled casseroles, pies, processed meats such as salami and sausages, some pastries and baked goods.
Try different versions of egg nog: traditional egg nog is usually made with egg yolk and thick cream. Google “low fat egg nog” and you will find lots of low fat egg nog recipes. If you buy commercial egg nog, you will be delighted to find low-fat or fatfree egg nog out there — we can even find soy nog!

Drink plenty of water: alcohol and coffee can dehydrate your body.

Physical activity: take nice brisk walks with your loved ones and enjoy their company in the holiday season.
